PUPPY INFORMATION and EXPERIENCE:
What size do your puppies grow up to be?
Since the Yorkie and Morkie breed are smaller, you can expect a little one! Our parents are all under 7lbs. They shouldn't create anything larger than themselves, however, genetics can always surprise us! There are many factors that contribute to a size of a dog, like, genetics, what you feed them, how active they are, are they spayed/neutered and their environment. We wouldn't expect a dog from our breeding program to be anything larger than 7 lbs, however we can never guarantee anything. Each puppy from previous litters range from 4 lbs - 7.5 lbs as adults.
WHICH GENDER AND PUPPY IS BEST FOR ME?
When and how do your owners get to select their puppy?
Once you have been placed on the reservation list for the current litter, you will be included in the journey of conception, pregnancy, birth and 8-9 weeks of development. You will be contacted at the birth of a litter and given the opportunity to choose (based on your reservation #) to choose from what is born or defer to a future litter.
You will learn all about their personalities, size and colors over the first 5 weeks. You will develop a bond with each puppy, learning their traits, how they respond, and exactly who they are.
Do I want a female or a male?
If you answered that you are seeking an active dog, one that is independent, confident, and one that enjoys a challenge and loves to hike, run, swim, bike and play non-stop in the park, we would likely suggest a female puppy. Often they need more mental stimulation than male dogs and in turn need more activity. Females also love men occupants in the home! They bond with men better and although that is more of a generalized statement, they love their daddy's!
If you are seeking a cuddle, lap dog, one that lives life for you, and pretty laid back, we would suggest you purchase a male puppy. Males tend to take a little longer to train but with patience and preparation from Baxter and Bella training program, you will be just fine. If you are a mommy and want a snuggle pup, a little boy is best for your house! The boys love the ladies!
Another very important factor in answering this question is, do you have any other dogs in your home?
If you have other dogs, it's important to take into account their genders and their roles in your already established family. Bringing a new puppy into the family can upset your current dogs' balance so be careful to pick a puppy that will compliment your current dogs' personalities. If you already have a female dog, we would suggest getting a male as having two females can sometimes cause issues, especially if they both have dominant personalities. If you already have a male dog, either gender should be alright for you. As males are generally more laid back, bringing either gender into the home is less of an issue. However, again, be sure that you are not picking a dominant puppy if your male dog already has a dominant personality. We are here to help you decipher which personality will work for you!
PUPPY PERSONALITY AND TEMPERAMENTS:
What does it mean when you say, you can assess their personality and temperament?
Puppies come into this world with a predetermined personality and genetic traits. It's amazing to watch these form and develop as the puppy matures in our home. We want you to get the puppy that best aligns with you and your lifestyle. The Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test (PAT) is a formal Puppy Temperament Testing System that can be done on puppies as early as 4 weeks and through the time they go home. The PAT is observing and puppy temperament testing ten different areas of behavior:
Social Attraction: How confident the puppy is when interacting with people?
Following: The willingness of a puppy to follow a person
Restraint: How dominant or submissive a puppy is when being handled?
Social Dominance: The degree a dog will accept a person as the dominant leader
Elevation Dominance: The degree to which a puppy will submit to a situation where he is not in control such as at the veterinarian or groomers?
Retrieving: The puppy’s willingness to do something for a person
Touch Sensitivity: The puppy’s degree of sensitivity to a human’s touch
Sound Sensitivity: The puppy’s degree of sensitivity to sound
Sight Sensitivity: The puppy’s degree of response to a moving object
Stability: The puppy’s startle response.
We carefully spend time logging, documenting and learning about each puppy by spending a lot of quality time with the litter and each one individually. The best part is you get to be a part of this amazing assessment and watching them grow into who they are meant to be!
SOCIALIZATION AND HEALTH OF OUR PUPPIES:
Have the puppies been socialized?
Socialization is critical in puppies 6-12 weeks. Proper socialization consists of positive experiences with other dogs and humans. Our puppies are exposed to the dogs in our home and they love to play! We don't allow too many visitors in our home, however, the puppy owners are welcomed weekly. We will have many family members in our home and they often interact with the puppies as they live in our home. We will provide you all the appropriate training and socialization materials when your puppy goes home with you!
Have the puppies been vaccinated and dewormed?
We deworm and we test (fecal) for worms and parasites immediately. Your puppy will go home with two single doses of NeoPar vaccine (against Parvo). We have had previous puppies die from administering the combo vaccines and due to their size and the fact that the vaccine manufacturers don't regulate the dosages, we no longer combo vaccinate at such a young age and size. We will provide you a vaccine protocol so you can safely vaccinate your dog when you and your puppy are ready.
Do you visit the vet and do I get paperwork?
Absolutely, we 100% visit our Veterinarian and receive a "clean bill of health." That visit includes a thorough wellness and health check, fecal exam, weight, and approval from our vet to send them home with you. We will provide you the Health records and paperwork at pick up.
Do you offer a health guarantee?
Yes! We stand behind the quality of our puppies. We are one of the only breeders that offer a full ONE YEAR health guarantee.
Do you really offer FREE health insurance?
We stay behind the health and wellness of our puppies. We want to provide you an amazing start with your puppy. You are assured that your puppy is healthy but we also know that accidents happen having a new puppy in the house. So to make sure that you are covered from DAY ONE against any accidents that could happen (like someone trips over the puppy or your puppy eats something they shouldn't) we pay for your Trupanion Health Insurance. This is free for the first 30 days you have your puppy with no obligation to continue once it ends.
